November 30 "Just Wait" Special: 1st Sunday of Advent
Americans have twisted Jesus’ command from “keep awake” to “keep busy,” to fit within a frenzied, consumeristic society that insists on instant gratification. This Advent season let us “just wait” with joyful expectation for what Christ has done and will do in the world.

Scripture: 2 Timothy 3:15 (NKJV)
Christianity is all about relationships. When asked, Jesus summed up all the law and the prophets by saying, “You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important, Love your neighbor as yourself.’’
Please join us for worship at 10:00 a.m. beginning Sunday January 4, 2015 as Rev. Susan Brown explores God’s design for our relationships.

It's All in the Timing
Ecclesiastes 3:1-4; Matthew 9:35-38
It seems all we do is hurry up and wait which can be so frustrating! Humans have a 9 month gestation period, there has to be a frost for apples to go to seed, it takes an hour for dough to rise. Sometimes waiting seems like wasted time, but waiting for God's timing is always worth it.

Giving Up Popularity
When Jesus was actively spreading the Good News, his popularity with the people grew. He loved, he blessed, he healed, he taught, he comforted. Why did he make a decision to give all of that up? Why should we?

“A bad day at fishing is better than a good day at work” ---catchy bumper sticker, but don’t believe it. Choose the good day at work; it’s an important part of how God gives you meaning and value. Image by Kuzma via Shutterstock
What Adults Can Learn from Children
Luke 19:15-17; Matthew 19:13-15
Life comes naturally to children. They are spontaneous and emotional and vibrant. Most importantly they are teachable; they are veritable learning machines. Jesus says that citizens of heaven are like them.
Be A Disciple
Matthew 5:1-11 (NRSV)
First in a series on Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount. At the end of his preaching on that day, Jesus contrasted those who heard his words and put them into practice to those who just soaked up a sermon without any life change. Be the real deal!
Be a Child of God
Matthew 5:9 (NRSV), Romans 12:14-21 (NLT)
Jesus said that peacemakers will be called children of God. Peacemaking is different from peacekeeping. Are you apeacemaker or a peacekeeper?
Inherit The Earth
Matthew 5:5 (NRSV), Matthew 11:29-30 (NIV)
Jesus said that the meek will inherit the earth. If you look up meekness in a thesaurus, the words that pop up are: docile, mild, tame, soft, passive, and spineless. No wonder we don’t like to claim this blessing!
Matthew 5:8, Psalm 139:23-24 (NRSV)
Jesus said the pure in heart will see God. Are you a fully sold-out, committed, Jesus follower?
Matthew 5:4 [NRSV]; 2 Corinthians 1:3-4 [NLT]
Life contains a lot of loss. We have a loving God who never abandons us in our grief. God does not resist our pain, our questions, or even our anger.
Matthew 5:6 [NRSV]; Proverbs 21:21 [NLT]
Looking for meaning? Searching for fulfillment? Jesus said that our relationship with God is based on a driving hunger and thirst. Is your heart calling out to God?
Matthew 5:7 [NRSV]; Micah 6:8 [NLT]
We only need it, because we don’t deserve it. Mercy, the totally unearned, undeserved gift that we receive when we give it away.
Claim The Kingdom, Part 1
Matthew 5:3 [NRSV]; Matthew 7:21 [NLT]
Jesus said that the “poor in spirit: would gain the Kingdom of God. You can’t get in with personal wealth. False humility, doesn’t open the door. Feeling inferior, is not the way. But th Kingdom can be yours.
Claim The Kingdom, Part 2
Matthew 5:10-11 [NRSV]; 2 Thessalonians 1:3-6 [NLT]
Jesus said that if we are persecuted for His sake, we will gain the Kingdom of God. Is this some fanatical invitation to a martyred life, or is this a proclamation of reality for Christ followers?
November 29, 2015 (Advent 1)
Help is on the Way
Isaiah 11:1-10, 1 Thessalonians 3:9-13

December 6, 2015 (Advent 2)
Thunder in the Desert
Matthew 3:1-11 [NLT]
We have tamed the Christmas story. Christmas is not really the story of a baby. It is the story of the Lion and the Lamb of Judah, the Son of God, the savior of the world. It is a story about the beginning of God’s transformation of the World. The actions of God in history are often sudden, unexpected, and at times feel intrusive. How are we to prepare for such events of power?
A special presentation by the Bel Cantanti Opera and CSA Church.
December 20, 2015 (Advent 4)
Mary the Prophet
Micah 5:2-5a; Luke 1:46-55
Do you ever wonder if you are too small, too ordinary, too insignificant to be useful to God? Undeniably God’s definition of our value is vastly different than our self-perception. We really have no excuse; if we are willing, God will call and use us despite our weaknesses, failings, and status in the world.

Isaiah 7:14; Titus 3:4-7; Luke 2:10-17
