The Apostle Paul wrote, “I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want” (Philippians 4:12). Paul learned that contentment comes only from relying on God, trusting that his strength will be sufficient in all things. Knowing that God loves us and will provide for us gives us confidence to depend on him. In contrast, a worldly focus leads us to place our hope on temporal and earthly things that ultimately provide no lasting happiness or future.
